This date book
contains the same Introduction to Astrology by Kim Rogers-Gallagher
that we raved about in the Astrological Calendar, as well as a lot
of the same information: ephemeris, planet retrograde and direct station
times, moon phases and the like. Its spiral bound format opens flat and
provides lots of room in each day for notations and appointments, so since
so much of the information duplicates the wall calendar, the choice is
pretty much down to which format you prefer.
The date book has a few features the wall calendar lacks
(and vice versa) including weekly horoscopes by Anne Windsor, a table of
and instructions for using the planetary hours, and the inclusion in the
daily aspectarian of the signs in which the planets are located.
The really special feature of the date book, though, is the
section on Finding Opportunity Periods by Jim Shawvan. General
opportunity periods are included throughout the planner, with Jim’s
notations, but he also includes instructions so that the interested (and
determined) reader can take into account the influences of his or her own
chart on the Opportunity Periods. On first reading, I truly thought Jim
was making this up as he went along, tossing out not only the familiar
moon terms waxing and waning, but also Balsamic, under beams, combust and
Cazini. Cazini? Come on Jim, now I know you’re pullin’ our
legs.
But no, My Mother The Astrologer vouches for the terms. My
bad. Anyway, Jim’s section alone warrants the purchase of the Date book.
So I take it back. Don’t choose between the wall calendar
and the Date book. Just skip over the repetitive bits. Buy both, and
enjoy.
Ordinarily I’d give it four pentacles, but Jim’s section
pushes it up to five out of five.
